چکیده

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Sixteen novel, polymorphic, multiplexed microsatellite loci were developed for eastern white cedar (Thuja occidentalis) using simple sequence repeat (SSR)-enriched shotgun pyrosequencing. • METHODS AND RESULTS Sixteen loci were tested on a panel of 24 individuals from different populations. The number of observed alleles ranged from four to 22. Four sets of multiplex PCR for the 16 loci were then carried out on 60 individuals of two populations from islands of FERLD Duparquet Forest, Canada. Mean number of alleles, observed heterozygosity, and expected heterozygosity were respectively 5.75, 0.594, and 0.574 for Island 58, and 5.50, 0.704, and 0.624 for Island 134. • CONCLUSIONS Four sets of multiplex microsatellite loci can be used for future genetic studies, which includes investigating genetic diversity and structure, and fragmentation and regeneration studies.

Activation of CD4-positive T cells by polysaccharide fractions isolated from the Cupressaceae Thuja occidentalis L. (Arborvitae).

Various mitogens have been described which act on different subpopulations of mouse and/or human peripheral lymphocytes. In recent years it has been mainly Japanese and German research teams that have isolated polysaccharide fractions with immunomodulative properties [1-3, 17]. In addition to fungal polysaccharides such as lentinan, schizophyllan, and PSK polysaccharide, which are basically in ...

Seedbed and moisture availability determine safe sites for early Thuja occidentalis (Cupressaceae) regeneration.

Regeneration of many late-successional tree species depends on specialized safe sites. The primary objective was to investigate the roles of seedbed and moisture retention as dimensions of safe sites for the early regeneration of drought-sensitive northern white cedar (Thuja occidentalis). We hypothesized that rates of germination, survival, and growth of T. occidentalis are unlikely to differ ...

Polymorphic microsatellite loci for Virola sebifera (Myristicaceae) derived from shotgun 454 pyrosequencing1

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Polymorphic microsatellite loci were characterized in the dioecious neotropical rainforest tree Virola sebifera. The markers will be used to study ecological and genetic impacts of hunting and landscape change in this vertebrate-dispersed, insect-pollinated tree species. METHODS AND RESULTS Simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were screened from genomic libraries of South...
